Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan shows as much interest in simplifying his notoriously complex schemes as he does in cutting his long silver hair.
Ryan says he won't coach a "brain-dead scheme" and says the Saints' emphasis on bringing in smart players provides a good environment for him to thrive.
When Ryan was overseeing defenses for a string of non-playoff teams during much of the past decade, the knock on him was that his players sometimes struggled with the versatility and various pre-snap adjustments his defenses require.
Ryan proved his approach can work when he took over a Saints defense that ranked last in 2012 and elevated it to fourth.
Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro says he expects even better results in Ryan's second season in New Orleans.
